Canadian Association for Long Term Care (CALTC)

LTCAM is a member of the Canadian Association for Long Term Care (CALTC). The Canadian Association for Long Term Care was established in 2002 to provide long-term care associations and providers with a forum to share information, best practices and evidence to improve the quality of care provided to residents in long-term care, no matter where they live. Since that time, CALTC has evolved to be the leading advocacy voice for long-term care homes at a national level.

Through our membership with CALTC, we are kept up-to-date and current on national issues in long-term care.

It is the ambition that this work will be considered during the development of a national caregiver strategy that was committed to during the last federal budget.

Health Canada invited CALTC to join a consultation on their development of a Canadian national framework for ethical international recruitment of healthcare professionals. This builds on the World Health Organizations framework, but with specific considerations for Canada. The work is at an early stage of development, but will keep CALTC members posted as the work progresses.

Continue to engage with ESDC on the renewal of the CALTC stewardship role of the National Occupational Standard for Personal Care Providers. Its been requested that this work include an additional pillar to consider foreign credential recognition support for newcomers and employers. The final proposal will be submitted soon for their consideration for 2025 projects.
