The 2024 Safety Den, held at the Long Term & Continuing Care Association of Manitoba (LTCAM) Annual Conference, was an exhilarating showcase of innovation, creativity, and dedication to safety in long-term care. The event brought together passionate professionals eager to share their groundbreaking ideas to enhance both workplace and commercial safety.

 

This year’s Workplace Safety Innovation and Commercial Safety Innovation categories featured a wide range of ideas, all aimed at making long-term care environments safer for staff and residents alike. The top three finalists in each category delivered impressive pitches, making it a tough decision for the judges.

Workplace Safety Innovation

1. L'Chaim to Life – A wellness initiative by The Saul and Claribel Simkin Centre that promotes staff wellness through fitness and wellness programs, ultimately improving workplace safety by reducing injuries and boosting morale​(L'Chaim to Life @ Skimk…).

2. Heart of Leadership Retreat – This retreat by Reseau Compassion Network connects leaders to the purpose of their work, promoting psychological safety and compassionate leadership​(Heart of Leadership Ret…).

3. New and Improved Building Performance Measures – A project by Red River College Polytechnic that developed improved building performance measures in long-term care homes, aiming to enhance resident and staff well-being​(Red River - New and Imp…).

 

Commercial Safety Innovation

1. Savaria Raizer II – A battery-operated mobile lifting chair by Savaria Patient Care, designed to safely assist fallen residents, reducing caregiver injury risks​(Savaria Patient Care - …).

2. Therapy Dog Program – An initiative by St. John Ambulance that leverages the therapeutic benefits of dogs to reduce stress and anxiety for both staff and residents​(Therapy Dog Program).
