SAFE Work Manitoba is the public agency dedicated to the prevention of workplace injury and illness. Working with our partners in the safety community, we provide prevention education, safety programming, consulting and strategic direction to create a genuine culture of safety for all Manitobans.

Areas of Focus
Safety associations – Support of existing industry-based safety associations and expansion of new associations (also known as certifying partners) is a key component of Manitoba’s overall prevention strategy. SAFE Work Manitoba assisted in the formation of four associations between 2015 and 2017 – for the trucking, motor vehicle, manufacturing and agricultural sectors. These certifying partners work closely with organizations to guide and support them through the SAFE Work Certified process (see below).

Certification – SAFE Work Manitoba has developed a voluntary provincial safety certification program that is accessible by all workplaces. This program helps create a consistent understanding of what’s needed to make Manitoba workplaces safer for everyone and provide all employers with an opportunity to make safety and health a priority in their organizations.

Prevention Rebate – Tied into certification is the implementation of financial incentives for employers. SAFE Work Manitoba launched a comprehensive prevention rebate program in 2018 to reward employers that demonstrate an ongoing commitment to workplace safety.

Consulting - SAFE Work Manitoba offers free consulting services to help workplaces become safer. Whether it’s workplace injury and illness statistics reviews, safety and health management gap assessments, risk assessments, or action plan development and implementation, we offer industry-specific knowledge, experience and safety standards.

Workshops - SAFE Work Manitoba offers a range of free, educational workshops throughout the year. Check out the current course calendar and course descriptions.

Emergency Response Information Kits are designed for individuals at risk of requiring emergency transport to a hospital. These kits allow you to fill in your personal health information, including name, address, health card numbers, next of kin, family physician, medical history, allergies and medications, health care directive and organ donor card. Paramedics are trained to look for these kits when responding to a medical assistance call and will bring them to the hospital to ensure care staff has the most up to date information about you. Kits are available through any Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Station or various seniors groups.
